Local Government Review

On the 16 and 17 March 2005 the Department of Local Government conducted an on-site review of council. The Local Government Reform Program - Promoting Better Practice is designed to encourage improvement in the way councils conduct their activities and to ensure good governance.

A review involves a review team evaluating the effectiveness and efficiency of the council's operations and giving feedback. This involves checking compliance, examining appropriate practices and ensuring that council has frameworks in place to monitor its performance.

The results of reviews are analysed and fed back to the elected council, the Director General of the Department of Local Government and the Minister for Local Government.

The attached document is the final report resulting from this process.
